Inside the Petronas Towers

I previously wrote about the visit to the Petronas towers and the Suriya KLCC mall. Those things are ordinary as you can just go inside the mall or take few snaps of the petronas from outside. What I am going to explain you now is one of the rare and unique trips to the tower and to its top. Ok, but what makes it rare ? For a very long time until November 2010, limited number of people will be allowed every day to go to the skybridge ( the tallest skybridge in the world connecting the two massive towers), but it is not easy to secure a ticket. You have to stand at the ticketing counter maximum by 6:30 AM and the tickets will be given by 9:00 AM which is too long a wait and too early a start. This makes most tourists /localites skip this except those who are adamant to see this / those staying at star hotels who will be arranged tickets. One good thing about this was, the ticket was free.

The Sky Bridge
But, Something changed from November 2010. I went to the Petronas at 6:15 by boarding the first LRT (public transportation of all sort will start only at 6 in the morning) and I was nearly the 40th person in the queue. I was forced to remember the queue in the food courts at Infosys :). After I reached the counter by 9:30, i was informed of the change - tickets are no more free, they cost you 20 RM for the skybridge and 40 RM for the Skybridge and to the Top most floor (this was a new addition). Though I was unhappy with the fee, the excitement about going to the topmost floor and also the irritation of standing in the queue for 3.5 hours made me buy it. I chose 5 PM as my visit time.
At 5, we were divided into various groups identified by our coloured tags and were given a video display of what the Petronas is and how they constructed the building. I frankly suspected if it would be filled, but later understood many companies have an office here for prestige - even TCS has one. We were taken to the 80th floor (not sure) where the towers narrow down and we were to change into smaller lifts. When we reached the top most floor, we were given our time to pose and also take some snaps of the splendid view around. Telescoped were placed all around and it being a clear day, I was able to see the Batu caves Murugan statue also.

After our time at the top floor, we were taken to the skybridge which is a double decker - the primary purpose of the skybridge though is for emergency evacuation given a situation where one of the towers had collapsed.

Even though the Petronas towers have been overtaken in height by many towers around the world, they are still a legacy and they deserve that name and fame.
To Summaize, the trip to the top of the Petronas might not be an easy one given the ticketing time , but it is seriously a visit not to miss if you have the time to afford it.
